You choose your flooring and it’s done, right? There’s so much more to it than that. When you buy luxury vinyl plank (LVP) for your home, there’s a whole installation process to go through.
At Wildcat Flooring, we want to show you how it’s done. Watch our installer John break down one of our recent LVP installs.
Can You Explain Soundproof LVP With a Cork Underlayment?
At this job site, the homeowner’s goal was to cut down on noise transfer through the floor. That’s why they wanted to pair LVP with a cork underlayment.
Cork does the heavy lifting here. It absorbs sound and helps with self-leveling, which is smoothing out subfloor irregularities before the plank goes down. With soundproofing, that combination made sense for the space.
What’s Actually in the Product?
John will tell you what you need to know on camera. “LVP” isn’t a uniform product. The quality depends on the brands and lines. Here’s more about what we used:
- 100% American-made
- 20-mil Wear Layer: The protective top layer determines how well the floor stands up to scratches and wear over time
- 5mm Overall Thickness
- Fully Padded Backing
These details matter, but when comparing options, they’re easy to overlook. Despite this, it’s important to know that a thicker wear layer and a quality backing separate a floor that holds up from one that doesn’t.
What is the Timeline From Prep to Install to Finish?
Most flooring jobs have more than a single-day turnaround. That’s by design, not a delay. Here’s a quick overview:
- Day One: It starts with the prep work, the unglamorous, but essential part of the job. That’s getting the subfloor ready, addressing leveling needs and setting up for a clean install.
- Day Two: The actual flooring install.
- Day Three: Trim work and finish details to finish the job properly.
Skipping or rushing prep is one of the most common issues with less careful installers. Doing it right takes an extra day, but can keep a floor from developing problems down the road.
